Sysinternals Utilities now hosted by Microsoft!

When you type in http://www.sysinternals.com to hunt for all your favourite systems administration utilities you get directed to http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sys...s/default.mspx! A (very) quick scan seems to indicate that the old favourites are still there...

And there's even a new utility called Process Monitor:

Process Monitor is an advanced monitoring tool for Windows that shows real-time file system, Registry and process/thread activity. It combines the features of two legacy Sysinternals utilities, Filemon and Regmon, and adds an extensive list of enhancements including rich and non-destructive filtering, comprehensive event properties such session IDs and user names, reliable process information, full thread stacks with integrated symbol support for each operation, simultaneous logging to a file, and much more. Its uniquely powerful features will make Process Monitor a core utility in your system troubleshooting and malware hunting toolkit.

Process Monitor runs on Windows 2000 SP4 with Update Rollup 1, Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, and Windows Vista as well as x64 versions of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows Vista.

Yippee!

PS Love the phrase: "legacy Sysinternals utilities" !

John,
For those like me who checked that site and read the description but couldn't find a place to actually download the program, you can find a copy HERE

Why does MS do that?

It's also on this MS page: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...essmonitor.mspx, the D/L link is at the bottom.

John,
Right you are but it seems to reinforce my complaint about them tucking the download link away somewhere amongst the lists at the bottom of the page.

Why not have a more prominent link near the top with possibly a download button showing. Or is that too much for "Princes of Redmond" to possibly endure?

Bob, I agree with your complaint - it's not easy to find them. FWIW, since many of these utils have recent revision publish dates, here are additional links to MS TechNet pages with sysinternals products I just D/L'd as a result of this thread - in every case the D/L link is not obvious, and is at or near the bottom of the page.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...ssExplorer.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysintern...itRevealer.mspx

Thanks, John and Bob, for this information.

Thank YOU, John,
I didn't have the latest copy of Autoruns. Now I do.

Bob & JohnBF,

The page design , except for the left frame, is the same way as the original Sysinternals site. Microsoft did not change it. The download links were always at the bottom.

One nice thing now is Sysinternals Suite. This is a rollup of all the Sysinternal utilities and help files.

But Joe.... didn't you realize that it is in vogue to find something/anything related with Microsoft to complain about? If it has to do with Microsoft, then it just can't be right!

Thanks, Joe - I think this simply embodies what many people did when it was announced that Mark and Bryce were moving to Microsoft - download everything that could be found on the Sysinternals website!

And amazingly from the Microsoft website you can still get the Blue-screen Simulation screensaver!

I expect that MSFT will be releasing new versions of the critters that do not work befor windows 2000 and do work in Vista.

Yes, I fell for that one. I "drained" the site, since download links were all on seperate pages. For my trouble, I got 170MB of stuff, including some 135MB of (hidden) movies they'd made on how to use their programs!

Jeff,

>that it is in vogue to find something/anything related with Microsoft to complain about

are you suggesting it might ever be out of vogue?

Howard, according to the text of the pages on the items I downloaded, many of them have been updated for Vista (but many of them also still work with pre-2000 Windows Os's, which is more tribute to Sysinternals skills than Microsofts skills).
