    Web Log Analyser

This subject has probably been bantered around a bit in the Lounge, but not recently.

My Web Host is normally very good at providing a service when it comes to Log files and has a built in analyser which is very good. Sometimes the log download to my area is delayed by about 48 hours but I can live with that. Now I can't even view my weblogs as their server is undergoing major works. I would like to analyse my own logs which I can FTP off my site anybody know any lightweight log analysers that I can use via my desktop?

    Re: Web Log Analyser

I've used visitors for both Apache and IIS logs. Although it's a command line program and a bit quirky, it is fast, which was its primary design objective. More info: <post:=568,806>post 568,806</post:>.

I've zipped together the stuff from my computer (GPL-licensed Win32 exe, GPL-licensed source archive, and my Word "helper" template for converting/analyzing IIS logs) and posted them here: http://jeffersonscher.com/res/visitors_0_61.zip (192K).

Probably has been updated numerous times since I downloaded last year, but for very basic log reports, it's "good enough."

    Re: Web Log Analyser

Visitors is brilliant Jeff, analysed all my logs for October in a flash. The log analyser I have with my domain is very comprehensive but has too many bells and whistles and a pain to navigate. I tried your and I can now find the reason for <!post=Bandwidth being sucked dry,604830>Bandwidth being sucked dry<!/post> very easily by the listings the application creates.

It appears that the link to a specific mpeg film I had got onto two Rugby forums here in England hence why it got hammered. The app is also very very good as it shows a full listing of the 404 errors and the files that were attempting to retrieved. It appears there were a further 967 requests for the mpeg which 404'd as I had removed the file from my site...taught me a big lesson as had I not checked my logs and made those changes I would have lost my bandwitdth for the month

This will be the analyser of my choice from now on...thanks

I've found Faststats Analyzer quite good ($99 for std version trial demo available) http://www.mach5.com/products/analyzer/index.php
