    NAV scan count

I created a directory tree that has 292 Microsoft Word (pre-Office 97) template files.
I scanned files with NAV 2006.
NAV reports a scan count of 2687.
    Wonder what that means?

Either they have been breeding, or perhaps the new version counts embedded macros to make it looks like it's doing more work?

Reminds me of the Star Trek episode about "Tribbles".

    Re: NAV scan count

Scanning the same 292 files usin KAV 6, gives a scan count of 578.
I've been told that KAV also scans "embedded objects" of what those are.

    Re: NAV scan count

I figured out how KAV came up with the number 578, but this just raised more questions.

KAV listed 589 events, but 11 were for "archives" (very bad terminology!).
All 11 archives are actually "projects". So 589-11 results in 578.

For each archive, each module, class and userform in the project was scanned.
And, for 10 of the projects (labeled "archive Embedded"), there is a scan of something called "1Table', which I am guessing is an internal Word thingee that specifies the members of the project.

The 11th project is labeled "archive MacBinary". and there is no 1Table for that project. Indeed, it is unclear to me what KAV is scanning for that project, as Word 2002 cannot even process the file.

It is also interesting to note that Word 2 templates are listed as being scanned, tho it is not possibe to process Word 2 macros in Word VBA.

So the first question is where is 1Table documented?

    Re: NAV scan count

I created a new template with a single macro.
NAV 2006 states that it scanned 12 critters.

I also tried after removing Normal.dot and the stuff in the Startup directory, so I wonder what's being counted.

    Re: NAV scan count

Yesterday, I installed the latest update to KAV.
As KAV is uinstalled in an OS that has Office XP, I scanned the Word 2002 Templates directory.
    Scan count was 1862.
We already know how KAV counts.

I then booted to the OS that has NAV 2006 and scanned the same Word 2002 Templates directory.
NAV reported a scan count of 6103!.
I wonder what NAV is counting as that is 4241 higher than KAV, and KAV seems to count all project components.
I guess NAV counts components that include no code, but I do not see how that would add up to 4241.
