    date field/mail merge (Word 2003 (SP2))

    Hi Guys!
    I'm experiencing some trouble with a date field in a mail merge I'm creating. I created the letter (which serves as template) and wanted to connect it to a excel file (which serves as source). So far so good. When I open up the preview, the field containing the date (of birth) is formated like this MM/DD/YYYY. In the source it is formated like this DD.MM.YYYY.
    Is there a way that I can make the field look like as in the source?

    Thank's for your support!
    Philipp

    One option is to change the way you connect to Excel. See Excel data does not retain its formatting in mail merge operations in Word.

    Another option is to specify the format in Word:
    - Right-click the merge field.
    - Select Toggle Field Codes from the popup menu.
    - You'll see something like { MERGEFIELD Fieldname }
    - Insert a formatting switch so that it looks like { MERGEFIELD Fieldname @ "dd.MM.yyyy" }
    - Press F9 to hide field codes and to update the field.

    Hello Hans!
    Thanks for your reply in lightspeed. <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30>

    The option to specify the format worked absolutely perfect. You saved a great amount of headache. <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>
    Have a nice day!
