Adobe Flash Player 9 updated

See Security bulletin released November 14.

Adobe Flash Player 9.x, 8.x, and 7.x. The custom-header addition feature was added starting with Adobe Flash Player 7, thus Flash Player 6 and earlier are not affected. [ ]"
[ ]
"Solution
Adobe recommends all users of Adobe Flash Player 9.0.20.0 and earlier versions upgrade to the newest version 9.0.28.0, by downloading it from the Player Download Center, or by using the auto-update mechanism within the product when prompted. [ ]"

Flash Player 9 now supports full screen mode in the web players, enabling greater immersive experiences for Flash, Flex and Flash video content. For more information about how to use this feature, see [article]. [ ]"[/list]

And some other improvements and a bunch of fixes. As usual, there is one player for Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera plugin-based, and a another download for the IE. Downloads depends on what browser you use to visit Flash Player Download Center. I still have not found the standalone installer for IE (Active X). If someone finds a way to download that one also, please tell me.

One can check their installed version here: http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/. Latest is 9,0,28,0.

"One can check their installed version here ...", yep, I know, been there when I browsed their entire site looking for a stand-alone download for IE (don't like when what you see or get is different depending on browser!!!).

But ... of course I should have included the link in my post to make it easy to check version. Thanks for your addition!

That little baby was on the news yesterday, but I didn't watch, but then we have the internet so it's easy to get updated about what everyone talks about. (The movie was first posted on the net, then made it into the news, as usual nowadays.)

Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 updated

I tried to install the latest version of the player, but when it was finished I still see the message "You have successfully installed version 9,0,16,0." That's the one I had before the upgrade, am I missing something or has my computer completely lost it's mind (if it had one that is)?

Because you may need SP2, have you installed it yet?

I will be generous with myself and say, No, I misspoke when I said that I would upgrade.
If that's the case, I'll continue using the older version.

Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 updated

Have you rebooted Gloria? When I installed this latest update, IE also showed that I had "upgraded" to the previous version. After a reboot and another check however, I confirmed that I did have the latest version. Dave may be correct (that you need SP2) but you might want to try a reboot to confirm. Firefox (at least on my machine) didn't have this problem.

Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 updated

Whatever you chose, I'm not going to chase you to upgrade to SP2, there is nothing related to Flash Player at this time that makes it need SP2. Anyhow some suggestions:

Fx or IE? IE I guess. Windows has a original Flash component installed, but as you are referring to an newer release, the 9.0.16, I asume you have updated earlier.

Now, the update process for Fx and IE is a little different. In Fx case you download a stand-alone installer, in the IE case the standard install is to visit Download Center and download and install the Active X component at the same time. There is also a stand-alone installer for IE (or at least was before) to download and install off line.

The recommendation for users who have installed Flash Player with a stand-alone installer, is to uninstall the previous version before installing a new. That is why I, when I download an installer for Fx, also download the latest uninstaller to have if I need. The uninstaller also gets updated sometimes, think there was an update in April.

Where can I find instructions for installing Adobe Flash Player?
Before installing the Flash Player please ensure that you have the following settings correctly set:
Internet Explorer ActiveX settings
Although your browser security settings should be chosen by you or your system Administrator, the 'Medium: Default Level' will allow you to view Macromedia Flash content. For any Custom Level, ensure that both "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" are not disabled. (Enable or Prompt will work).

To view your Security Level do the following:

1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Choose Tools then Internet Options.
3. Select the Security tab.
4. Choose Internet.
5. Ensure that "Download Signed ActiveX controls" and "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins" are not disabled.

If you are having trouble installing make certain that your Internet Explorer security level is not set to High or at a custom level which does not allow viewing of ActiveX controls.

Previous versions of Macromedia Flash Player should be removed
Uninstall any previous version of Flash Player before using the standalone installer. For instructions on removing the player, please see How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control (TN 14157).

All web browsers must be closed
Quit all running applications, including all Internet Explorer windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger or other Messengers. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications that might possibly use Flash Player are still in memory.

After these settings are in place, you are ready to download and/or install the Flash Player.

Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 updated

Dave, I went to Firefox and found System Requirements for the player. I installed the Player from there and the .exe file was downloaded to my desktop.

For Windows XP the only requirement was for Browsers which included IE 6.0 and Firefox1.x among others.
IE 7.0 was not on the list., neither was SP1 or SP2.

This is just for your and readers information.

John,
Here I am running on a 8 Mbps line, and quite good at picking search terms and still didn't found that post, cause the Lounge has to do a new search it seems whenever I click next page in search results, and it is so slooow. It was some Linda or whatever, don't know if Jefferson also gave a reply in the post I was thinking about.

So my post was edited and checked several times, when I took 5-10 minutes off for some search, so my post could actually have been in there before yours, then it would have looked as if I had psycic powers ...

Re: Adobe Flash Player 9 updated

Hi Gloria,
No, there is no need for SP2 as I mentioned in my reply to you.

For the benefit of all Loungers here are the System requirements page: System requirements Adobe Flash Player 9

There has before been an issue with need for a reboot sometimes after install up to ver. 7. That should be solved with versions above 8. There may however be a need to restart your browser, which should almost be obvious.

Windows may require a restart after installing Flash Player 7

For the Fx users this is not an issue since hopefully the browser is closed when running the installer.
