    excel is read only (excel97)

I have an excel spreadsheet that is "opened exclusive" by several users, who type data into it. I then harvest their stats. One user (only one!!) can only open it READ ONLY, other users are read/write. It's a pain. Anyone have any ideas how to fix, or the cause ??
    Thank you all.....
    Thanks

That user may only have read access to the network drive where the file is stored.

Is it always the same one person, or is a rotating one person? If the same, perhaps the way they are choosing to open the file, or, as Legare mentioned, something in their network rights and permissions on either that specific (sub)directory or the file itself. If it is not always the same person, but always one of out, say, 10, perhaps there is a limit for the number of concurrent users that can have an Excel file open for editing and you're bumping up against that.
