Split cell v extra column (2002/SR2)

    Hello-

Is it less 'burdensome' for a table if it has an extra column than splitting cells, when necessary (not every row would need to be split). Trying to cut down on the number of crashes in complicated tables.

Or, would it amount to the same table stress since that column would have to have be resized from time to time...

    Thanks.

I've worked with some pretty large documents with lots of tables (thousands of pages, over a thousand tables). Can't say that I've noticed more or fewer crashes if cells were split.

Hans, thanks for the response. I had read that splitting cells could cause problems with tables and since I often work w/tables and since often Word says there's a problem and then shuts down the file, I thought it worth asking my Pros.

    Speak with you soon,

Split/merged cells are fine if you never need to resize. However, trying to resize columns in a table with split/merged cells often makes a big mess. <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

(As for Word crashing, my usage of merged cells is too limited to have seen any connection.)
