    Word problems (Word 2003)

I am having a couple of irksome Word problems with which I would love to have some help.

    1. The screen tips on toolbar buttons do not work by default. I have to start them by going into toolbars/Customize/Options/Show screentips on toolbars. This works, but the moment I go out of Word, I am back to no screen tips. How can I set them as default. Previous versions of Word alsways had screen tips on, unless you disabled them, I believe.

    2. When turning off certain features, such as automatic numbering or "capitalize first letter of table cells" etc., these changes are not saved by the normal.dot and next time I go into Word I have to invoke these changes again. How can I make them permanent? Other things I set to default, such as page size and font, are saved in the normal.dot.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Do you have the Adobe PDFMaker toolbar installed in Word? This can block the saving of configuration changes to Normal.dot. To force a save of Normal.dot after you make changes, hold Shift and click File to get the "Save All" option. If that doesn't help, please see the link above.
