    Windows Update - Stop

    Hi -

We mistakenly clicked on the yellow update icon and 14% of the file is downloaded. How can I stop the download? I don't want that file.

    Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.

Can you right-click the icon? If so, Cancel might be available.
Otherwise, you could cancel once the download is complete.

    Hans - Thanks for replying.

No, right clicking does nothing. So, we have to wait until the download finishes, I guess.

    Appreciate your time.

You could end the processes starting with wu (for Windows Update) in the Processes tab of Task Manager, but I'd recommend that only as a last resource.

Thanks for that, Hans. I had read about ending the process, but didn't know what to look for (WU is too easy, I guess). So, glad I did not proceed.

(The update is for IE7 and I have heard to avoid it for a while.)

WUAUCLT.EXE seems to be around a lot when Windows Update is around!
