Styles and formatting task pane (2003)

Sometimes when I use the task pane to show styles, Word puts the most recently used styles in a little section at the top of the list, which can save scrolling down a long list to find one you want to use again, but today it doesn't seem to be doing this. Is there a setting to turn this on and off?

I've never seen that. Try selecting "Available formatting" or "Styles in use" from the Show dropdown at the bottom of the task pane. If it is set to "All styles", you'll have to wade through a long list of styles.

OK - it gives the little sub-list at the top when All Styles is selected, but not with the other options. It makes the list long, but after you have used the styles you want once, they are there at the top of the list and no scrolling is required at all. Obviously useful to switch to All Styles to perform some tasks.
