RoboCopy GUI

For those people who can't cope with the command line interface, one of the Microsoft MSN Search chaps has written a RoboCopy GUI under the snappy (download) title of "UtilitySpotlight2006_11.exe"

The original Robocopy.exe file is less than 78 KB in size; the GUI download is 1052 KB... 'Nuff said.

    Re: RoboCopy GUI

    Hi Joe,

I hadn't heard of RoboCopy before. It seems to be a Win2003 Server tool. Is there a use for it when running WinXP?

Versions of ROBOCOPY did sterling work for me all the way from NT4! The Windows Server 2003 version is also in the XP Resource Kit (78 KB), and produces "Version XP010" at the top of any log you produce from running it. My BATch file copying mechanism of choice for my Windows Server 2003/XP Pro work environment.

    Re: RoboCopy GUI

My mistake. It was late at night yesterday and I was pretty tired, I confess the topic of the post sounded more like "Windows stuff" rather than "Batch coding", the first two letters of the poster's username were "Jo" and the last ones didn't make the pronunciation change drastically. I guess my dumb side took over (it's there all the time and feeds on strength shortages), thought "mmmmh, the Windows guy is Jo..." and let my (flawed) Intellisense do the rest.

From your words I assume it wouldn't hurt if I install the software from the Win2003 Server files. In fact, this link suggests using the Win2003 toolkit instead. I've downloaded both packages already.

I've downloaded both packages already.

... and their file hashes match! Whatever, I'll pick one at random. It's a test I'm going to do after all.

    Thanks!
