You could use code like this:

    Dim objWord As Object
    On Error Resume Next
    Set objWord = GetObject(, "Word.Application")
    If objWord Is Nothing Then
    Set objWord = CreateObject("Word.Application")
    If objWord Is Nothing Then
    Call SendMessageToNotePad(lblMessage.Caption)
    Exit Sub
    End If
    End If
' code to do something with objWord goes here
    ...
    Set objWord = Nothing

    Worked perfectly

Is there a way to disable Word on development computer for testing purposes?

    Thanks, John

Temporarily rename Winword.exe to Winword.ex. The default location for Word 2000 is C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice.

I got message, Preparing to install, looks like Word automatically reinstalled itself, open and displayed my meaasge

Guess I will have to test on computer without a Word install

    Thanks, John

Interesting. On my PC with Office XP, I can rename Winword.exe. Clicking the shortcut to Word then pops up a dialog with a search light.

This forced the error for Note Pad to execute

    Set objWord = GetObject(, "xWord.Application")

    Set objWord = CreateObject("xWord.Application")

    Thanks, John
