Ask (2000)

On opening a template with mail merge and ask fields, the ask dialog box for each field pops up. It repeats a second time when template is associated with data source and merged. As only one set of dat is being merged, how can this duplication be prevented?
This also occurs when using the Fill In form field.

Are you opening the template or creating a new document based on the template?

creating a new document using the template. Using a template with mail merge fields to create a series of documents using the same record in a data source with just one record. Legal secretary working for judge as series of judgement entries are made with same plaintiff, defendant, case no, lawyers etc. get the promt when creating the form from template and again when merging data to the document.

Try creating and saving a document based upon your template. Use that for your primary merge document. If needed, save it as read-only.

If you need to use a template, you may want to consider using a userform instead for your base information and storing the gathered information in document properties. Then use {DOCPROPERTY} fields to use the information in your document.

You may want to download the following from my download page (addbalance.com/word/download/) and take a look at them.
AskForm and UserForm (These are both designed as tutorials with the VBA unlocked.)
