    Logitech cordless PS2 to USB

The IT team has just installed a new Dell laptop/docking station on my desk. As they did they took one look at my old logitech Cordless Wheel Mouse (tm) snickered, and plugged in a stock Dell optical mouse.

I asked them if I could use the cordless with the new PC and was told yes, but I would have to get a PS2 to USB converter plug. I got one of those today but when I plug it in .... nothing. No balloon message about new hardware, the mouse driver (I reinstalled the latest logitech driver) doesn't see it ...

Any ideas (besides buy a Mac, that is!)

I've had problems when not installing the software and drivers first. Have you installed the software before connecting the hardware to you docking station?

Failing that, you could opt for a new USB Logitech Cordless Wheel Mouse.

Thanks for the suggestion Chris, but I actually installed the latest Logitech drivers a few days ago - I wanted to see if it would give me Logitech's functionality on the Dell Mouse (it did).

I think your plan B will likely be the likely option!

You might test the adapter on another computer to see whether it is any good. i recently bought a USB memory stick that was DOA, which was a big surprise.

I think you may be right. I brought it home to test on my Mac G4 Desktop - result the same. Tried in my wife's G4 Powerbook - the same.

I am cursing myself, because on the way out of the shop this afternoon I separted the packaging into the recycling bins. I also chucked the receipt (for CHF9.95) into the paper bin. Wonder if they will exchange it for another one?

Problem is that if I replace the Mouse with another cordless it will come out of my pocket! And our IT people refuse to support it (or do anything other than sniff at it). Decisions, decisions ... <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>
