IE 7 Disabled Cable Connection (XP Home)

A friend has installed IE 7 on her laptop and now she can't access the internet. I won't have access to her computer until later and will first check the connectivity settings. If they are correct and still won't connect, I have no idea what to do next.
Also, aside from possibly fixing the connection problem, how can IE 7 be removed and IE 6 be re-installed?
    TIA,
    Bill

Re: IE 7 Disabled Cable Connection (XP Home)

I have run across several machines connected to Comcast and have no connection. They have all been running IE6. I found that on every one of them the NIC had been disabled. Re enabled the NIC, all works just fine including the installation of IE7.

Note, we have lost power in this area a lot lately, so this may be have a bearing of the disabled NIC.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
