Word Outline to Powerpoint (2000)

I will greatly appreciate advice and direction on how to move a 24-page outline from Word to PowerPoint incrementally, that is, level 1, then levels 1&2, then levels 1, 2, and 3.

Each outline level uses styles.

I have tried collapsing the outline before sending from Word or opening from PowerPoint. Either way, the entire outline, complete with all normal/body text moves.

In Word, I am considering this:

Changing fonts to "hidden" in styles for all levels below the top level. If that produces a usable slide, go back to Word and change 2nd level to "unhidden,'" move levels 1 and 2 to PowerPoint, then do the same to get 3rd and 4th levels moved over.

There must be a better way that I don't know about.

Thanks for your help.

Sent all the headings - Hdg 1 as title, 2 as first level bullet, 3 as second level bullet - but no normal text.
Sorry to ask, but did you get the text into PowerPoint by using File | Send To | PowerPoint in Word?

dgziegler,

The conversion is only controled by the styles (heading 1 to 9). So by setting the correct styles before the conversion, PP will take the correct data in de presentation

Greetings to you, too.

Yes, but....

I had set styles, outline-numbered, for the entire outline.

Moving the outline from Word, using SendTo, or opening it within PP, produced a garbling of the outline.
However, that doesn't matter.

I'm trying to move, first the outline's top-level only, then levels 1 and 2, then levels 1,2, and 3.

What I'm trying to find is a way to move a collapsed version of the outline from Word into PP. Whatever I try, in either program, results in moving the entire, uncollapsed, outline, all three style-formatted headings/levels, plus the fourth level which is normal/body text. Even working entirely in PP 2000's left-pane outline, it is clumsy, at best, to try to delete those outline levels I don't need.

I am now reduced to copying and pasting one line or two at a time.

Surely, between Word and PP, there must be a better way.

I think that we are approaching this from the wrong angle. I believe that the information has to be prepared in Word first - before bringing it into PPT. I've made this post on the Word board asking for suggestions. Let's see if the Word gurus can solve it!

Of course, if there is a better PPT solution - I'll be fascinated to find out about it.
