    Replace (W97 SR2)

Forgive me if this is an RTFM question, but I don't see an obvious answer in Help.

How do I limit a S&R to body text? At certain times I don't want my S&R to change Headers and Footers.

This post assumes a S&R = Search and Replace...

    Do a ctrl-A before doing the ctrl-H.

If you select the body text before running the search and replace then only the body text seems to undergo the operation. If the selection is an insertion point then the headers and footers get done too (by default).

Thanks, Andrew, you assumed correctly, and I should have thought of that. <img src=/S/doh.gif border=0 alt=doh width=15 height=15>

...alternatively, when you do your search and replace you can specify the style you want to be searched for. When you have the replace dialogue box open, click on More, then Format, then Style. Select the Style you want for the search (say Body Text, Normal or whatever) and then Word will only look for your search term in that style. Headers are presumably in Header style, so will be missed. - Ian
