Word as window in IE7 (IE7.0.5730.11)

    Hi all

Since installing IE7, when I click a link to a word doc, it opens in a window in IE7 (with reduced functionality). I used to get it opening in a word window with full functionality. I think it was a registry tweak.

Can you tell me how to get word docs to open in Word. Thanks.

I don't have IE7 yet, so I don't know if the following still works. It's worth a try, though - it won't take long.

Select Tools | Folder Options... in Windows Explorer.
    Activate the File Types tab.
Select DOC in the list of extensions.
    Click Advanced.
Make sure that the check box "Browse in same window" is clear.

There is no GUI available in Vista. You either have to edit the registry manually or get one of the tools mentioned at Windows Vista File Associations Advanced Editing Management Tools - Tips & Tweaks.

Are there instructions for the registry hack somewhere?

    Thanks!

Do you want documents to open in IE, or not to open in IE? These Microsoft support articles might help:

Office 2007 (defaults to open in native application): A new window opens when you try to view a 2007 Microsoft Office program document in Windows Internet Explorer 7

Office 2000-2002 (defaults to open in IE): How to configure Internet Explorer to open Office documents in the appropriate Office program instead of in Internet Explorer

I'm not sure whether the same settings apply to Office 2003.
