Install XP From HDD (XP Pro SP2)

    Hi,

I am sure there is a way to put XP and some other files on a cleanly formatted Hard Disk, so that when you use it as the boot disk it runs set up. Cant think how though.

The machine I want to run set up on has no CDROM, no FLoppy etc, just a HDD and a LAN connection - they are specialist sealed units. Unfortunatley (really annoyingly!) they cannot Boot from LAN, else I would use RIS to do the install.

I have taken out the Hard Drive, and put it in another machine, where I can copy the Installation files. How do I get it so that it boots when I put it back in the other machine, and runs install?
    Thanks,

    pmatz

Re: Install XP From HDD (XP Pro SP2)

    Hi,

    I found the way to do it. Using winnt32.exe /syspart:<driveletter> /tempdrive:<drive letter>.

this sets up the installation files and formats the hard drive so that when it is back in its original PC, it boots into setup... NICE

    Gotta thank MS for those switches! <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>
    Thanks,
