    Function help (Excel2003)

    For a sheet-function I programmed in VBA, I'd like to have a help-popup. E.g. when one enters in a cell: =MAX(

the moment the opening "(" is entered, there is an argument help. Is that simple for my own functions (that I'd like to run in an add-in maybe)

    Thanks

    EJ

Laurent Longre has a free add-in Funcustomize.dll that lets you add descriptions for each argument of a user-defined function. See Excel add-ins.

Looked briefly and will try, this seems to provide the help in the dialog. All I'm looking for is the little pop-up in just above the cell

Funcustomize only provides descriptions for the Function wizard. I don't think there is a dependable way to have Excel display popup help for user-defined functions. If I remember correctly, Laurent Longre used to have a description of how to do that, but he has withdrawn it because there were problems with it.

Is there any mileage in a bog standard Comment for the cell(s) concerned?

A comment pops up each time you move the mouse pointer over the cell. The function popup is displayed only when you enter or edit a built-in function in a formula.
Moreover, the comment wouldn't be present if you start to enter the function in a new cell.
