    bootproblem compac

    Hello,

i have just bought a second hand pc to fool around with. Strangely enough it boots with a disk without any problem but booting from HD is a different story. First if all to know it's a Compac Deskpro EN PIII. Says a lot to some of you I suppose. When booting from HD the cursor doesn't show only the letter L and that's all. Fini The End. Booting from disk an cd-rom and all goes ok. Have tried to put up a Linux RedHat7.2 which works ok. How am I able to boot from HD all the way through? That would be nicer instead of a diskette.

    Jan,
Have you been able to get into the BIOS to see what the boot order is set at?
Also does the BIOS see the HD as the proper type?
Can you boot into Safe Mode to see if there is a system installed on the HD?

Long ago, there was a time when men cursed and beat on the ground with sticks. It was called witchcraft.
    Today it is called golf!
