formula and text in one cell (excel 2000)

Is it possible to have the results of a formula and text in the same cell? For example, add a list of numbers and have the total show in the cell that would also contain the word "minute".

You can format the cell to display this way:
Select the cells:
Format - cells- number (tab)
Custom:
0" minutes"
<ok>

For no decimal places or
0.0" minutes"

for 1 dec place, etc.

Formatting this waykeeps it a number, it only displays it differently.

Yes.

=SUM(A1:A3)&" minute"

You can use a custom format:
- Select the cell with the result.
- Select Format | Cells...
- In the Number tab, select the Custom category.
- Enter

0" minute(s)"

in the Type box.

Alternatively, you can use a formula such as

=SUM(A1:A4)&" minute(s)"

to combine a calculation and text.
