Problem with Windows download manager (XP Home SP-2)

Too often when downloading larger files, e.g., 10 megs +, Windows download manager "stalls" and I have to cancel the download session. Most of the time I can then switch to FlashGet and get the file without a problem. But in some instances, certain sites block the use of 3rd-party download managers and thus I am stuck using the Windows Download Manager. Would someone advise me what to look for to resolve this "stall" problem?

Did you try GetRight Download Manager ? Unfortunately, it is not free...

I think there might be various possible factors here, many of which might emanate from the remote server. There's also the problem of whether the server allows resuming an interupted download. I don't have an answer to this, but can add by saying that I'm happy with my FileZilla download manager.

    Alan,

I have looked at FileZilla years ago, but unless things have changed, that is a "FTP" application and not a download manager and thus it is totally inapplicable to the downloading of files via http and https.

My apologies... must be having a brain-dead day. I meant to point to Free Download Manager, not FileZilla.
