    App Loading Delay (XP SP2)

    Hi All,

Here's an odd one. An application will load fine if you use a shortcut to the app or the app file itself to open it. If you drag a file onto the open app or onto the shortcut to a closed app everything loads fine. The problem is that if you double click on a file that is associated to an app it delays about 30 seconds before opening the app or document. This goes for several apps, Acrobat Reader, Word, etc. It also goes for all users of this PC, including the local administrator. During the delay there is no unusual process activity.

I've checked and recreated the file type associations with no apparent change.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Dan

You might check for drive letters that refer to a drive / network folder / computer that is not available any more.

I tried that and got rid of a couple of items in the Network Places that were old. All of the remaining items there, and all of the drive mapping respond pretty quickly.

    Thanks,

Check Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options to make sure that checking of network drives is not checked.

    Thanks Big Al,

I'd forgotten that setting, but it did not help the problem. I had such hopes, too.
