    Exporting Contacts (Outlook 2003)

I am trying to export my Contacts from Outlook 2003 to an Excel spreadsheet. After choosing Export, then Microsoft Excel it asks for the folder to export from and there are none listed or available to choose from. The only options I have are to clock the "back" or "cancel" button.

If I do the same thing only choose to export to a *.pst file the folders are presented for me to choose from. Why are the folders not available when I want to export to an Excel spreadsheet? What do I need to do to make them available so I can accomplish my export?

    Thanks

Not sure I'm following you. If I created a new profile I wouldn't have the contacts I am trying to export to Excel, would I?

I tried it on another computer and it said the "translator" was not installed and asked if I wanted to install that now. Once I said yes, it installed it and Outlook presented me with the list of folders but this machine doesn't do that. Is there a way to force a "Translator" install?

    Re: Exporting Contacts (Outlook 2003)

OK it didn't work after following the instructions form this link. Do you suppose it is because on this machine when I originally installed Office I kept Office 2000 on it to? If that is the cause is there an easy way to correct this?

My other machine that works as it should just had Office 2003 installed from the start and never did have Office 2000 on it.

    Two more things to try:

    1) Select Help | About Microsoft Office Outlook 2003... and then click Disabled Items... Anything listed there?
    2) Select Help | Detect and Repair.

    Hans,

Thank you so much. The Detect and Repair fixed it.

    Again, thanks.

    "Detest and repair"? No wonder your contacts don't like you <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

But seriously, I have no idea. I've never had to repair Outlook in the various versions I have used over the last 11 years or so. Perhaps someone else will come up with an explanation.

    Re: Exporting Contacts (Outlook 2003)

I just had to run another Detect and Repair today to export Outlook's contacts to a windows CVS file. Any ideas why I have to detect and repair so often? It has been less that a month since I originally did it and all seemed fixed but today again I could not choose a folder to export from until I once again ran the detect and repair. Once again it seems fine but I have no confidence it will remain that way.

    Thanks

    Re: Exporting Contacts (Outlook 2003)

I did one export and already it will not let me choose a folder to once again export. I should say it will still let me export to a *.pst file but not to a *.CSV file. Something is very strange.

    Re: Exporting Contacts (Outlook 2003)

    Hi Dave,

That is the point it never gets to where you show because it doesn't have any tree information to choose which folder to export. It is there and works fine if I run a Detect and Repair but it only works for a very short period of time and then I no longer have to option of choosing which folder to export. It only does this on this one machine and I'm wondering if it is because when I installed Office 2003 on it I choose the option to keep Office 2000 installed and available. The machines where only Office 2003 is installed work perfectly. Any thoughts?
