Reinstall on new PC (2003 SR2)

I just bought a new laptop and want to install my legal copy of Office. Will I have to call MS to get their approval when I Activate? Or has this changed since the last time I did this four years ago. Will I have to do anything to the original on my old laptop?

If your old laptop is still in usable shape, you should uninstall Office 2003 from it before installing it on your new laptop. You will almost certainly have to re-activate the software after installing it; the dialog that appears will display the available options.

One thing to take into account, it is an OEM version that came pre-installed with your old computer then you will not be able to install it on the new computer.

Thanks, Hans. Is uninstalling on the old an MS requirement for Activation on the new? I may use the old laptop occassionally, and would like to keep Office on it, if it's not illegal.

The end-user license agreement for MS Office states

You may:
(a) install and use a copy of the Software on one personal computer or other device; and
( install an additional copy of the Software on a second, portable device for the exclusive use of the primary user of the first copy of the Software.

Since "other device" includes portable computers (laptops), it would seem to be OK to have Office installed on two laptops. But don't quote me!

Howard,
I have the same legal MSO 2003 on both my laptop and my PC. All I did was register it on my PC and activate it and then installed it on my new laptop. When I activated it on my laptop however I decided to call into the activation just to make sure all was Ok. There were no problems.
Thanks John
