Re: Access File Format (ACCESS 2003)

Access 2003 can work with databases in Access 2000 format and with databases in Access 2002/2003 format without any need for conversion. (It can also open databases in Access 97 format. but then you must either convert them to one of the newer formats, or open them "as is" without the possibility to change the design of database objects).

The Access 2000 format is the default file format in Access 2003. If you wish, you can convert existing databases to Access 2002/2003 format using Tools | Databas Utilities | Convert Database | To Access 2002/2003 File Format. You can also set the default format for new databases in the Advanced tab of Tools | Options...

I would recommend staying with the Access 2000 format, because all Access 2000, 2002 and 2003 users can use this format. Access 2000 users cannot open databases in Access 2002/2003 format. The Access 2000 format is also smaller and more stable than the Access 2002/2003 format. The only downside is that you cannot create an .mde database from an Access 2000 database - you *must* start with a database in the native Access 2002/2003 format to do so.

    Hans,

Once again, thanks kindly for your more than clear explanations. Like I've said before, let me know when your book on Access comes out. It'll be a best seller,

    Cheers,
    Cheers,
