    PhotoShop

I'm not sure if this can be done however if I don't ask I won't know. We have some before shots that are 100 kb up to 1 - 2 mg that we need to prep for a competition. They are requesting photos as 3-4 mb. Can I increase the resolution without decreasing the size on these photos? I know you can decrease the ppi without doing major damage to the shot for web or email purposes but can you reverse the process? OR ... if anyone knows of another website that could help that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Boy feather, I'm not a photog but I can't imagine some "officials" of a competition being more concerned about the size of the file rather than the "true" resolution of the picture as it was taken! Unless someone else knows of a way to increase without screwing up the picture, I don't think it can be done in a way that a good photographer would like.

Are you sure they aren't imposing MAX sizes on you rather than a required size?

I am afraid that once the image is downsized, that is where it remains. It is possible to make your file size bigger by resampling to a higher resolution. The way that Photoshop does this is to fill in the new pixels based on the colour values of the pixels around it. This normally makes for a less defined image, it will never get better.

I am just going to try an experiment with layers and if it works will get back to you.

You could try the Alien Skin Blow Up Plugin for Photo Shop if you've got an extra $179 laying around.
