    Bullets and numbering (word 2000)

In the settings for numbering, or in setting the parameters for a style, is there a way to format a list style to "restart numbering" rather than "continue from a previous list"? When I open a word document that has had each list manually formatted to "restart numbering", word routinely changes the numbering in some, not all, consecutive lists in the document. Is there some way to control this?

    Welcome to Woody's Lounge!

I don't think you'd want "restart numbering" to be part of the definition of a style - paragraphs using that style would always be numbered 1. See Methods for restarting list numbering on the Word MVP site for some ideas.

    Hans,

I have seen this done, where the "Style for next paragraph" continues the already started numbering. So you have a first line style and a not-first-line style.

OK, good point - using two styles makes sense for this.

    Thanks for your help

I like the idea of a first line style and additional line style. In setting up the styles would I do it by formatting the numbering rather than using the auto formatted numbering, ... then in the addtional style refering to the first line style? I will experiment, but if you have a specific way of doing this, let me know when you have a few moments.

    Thanks

I just tried to do this, and dismally failed. I couldn't get the style to include a reset numbering attribute.
