What is this Volume Control? (XP SP-2)

Every once in a while I hit a sequence of keys and volume control pops up no matter where I am.

It is gray, about 7 x 7 inches square on an 800 x 600 pixel display, inside it has a round button that is about 5 inches in diameter inside the square.

It has the word Volume centered on the top

It has Mute button bottom left, click on Green, and click off Black

There is a minus key at 7 o

A screen shot would help. No offense intended, but your description leaves a lot to be desired.

I think Doc means that a picture is worth 133 (descriptive) words!

You haven't got a volume control button on your keyboard (or laptop) by any chance?

Thank you for elucidating that point for me John.

    Your right

I think it is from Hot Keys from Qliner Software

The Start+V key toggles this control (I use Ctrl+V to paste all the time)

Here is screen shot for the record

    Thanks, for your guidance

Boy, if that attachment is a screenshot of your computer screen, that sure is a big a**ed volume button!

You've already said that right-clicking on the control (NOT the button itself) doesn't bring up a context menu, so you'll have to look within the parent software to see if there's some way to turn it off. The old trick I used to use, if you could identify the file name, re-name the file to something the software can't find. That's probably not possible these days with all the DLLs that are used. I suppose as a last resort or two, you could write the publisher with the question, OR failing all else, quit using the software. Anyone else got ideas?

I'll echo Al's sentiments, that's one serious volume control !!!! I guess they want you to know it's there.

I honestly never would have imagined something like that from your description.

If it is from the HotKeys application can't you configure it to disable this key combination? See Learn hotkeys in 5 minutes for more information.

Other than for the colour, that is exactly as how I envisaged it from the description. Perhaps I haven't had as sheltered an upbringing as you

I suppose I should have said that I didn't believe the dimensions he posted were correct. Couldn't imagine anyone needing (or creating) a volume control so large. Just didn't make sense to me.

Oh yeah, that's somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-30% of my screen territory! (roughly speaking)
