# Thread: The 7-11 Puzzle

1. ## The 7-11 Puzzle

A lady walks into a 7-11 store and selects four items to buy. Each item costs more than one dollar and less than five dollars. The clerk at the counter informs the lady that the total cost of the four items is \$7.11. She was completely surprised that the cost was the same as the name of the store. The clerk informed the lady that he simply multiplied the cost of each item and arrived at the total. The customer calmly informed the clerk that the items should be added and not multiplied. The clerk then added the items together and informed the customer that the total was still exactly \$7.11. (There was no sales tax involved)

What are the exact costs of each item?

The solution for those who do not recall Jezza's solution of a few years back:

<span style="background-color: #FFFF00; color: #FFFF00; font-weight: bold"> <font face="Georgia">7.11 = 3.16 + 1.25 + 1.50 + 1.20 = 3.16 x 1.25 x 1.50 x 1.20</font face=georgia> </span hide>
