    Ghost pst file (Outlook 2003)

    Any suggestions for this problem.

I have a mail folder showing in my folder list called "Archive Folders". However, I cannot open it (or close it). When I double click on it, I get the following message.

The set of folders could not be opened

This error usually appears if the OST or PST file you are using is:
    Unavailable
    Protected with file permissions
On a share on a server and the network is down
    Corrupt
To correct this problem, store the OST or PST file on the local computer.

I only have 1 archive folder, and it is stored on a local drive (Admittedly not the C: drive, but it is "My documents", and still a local one) and I can open and close it successfully. My main pst file is also stored on the same local drive, and opens and closes fine.

I searched the archives and found an earlier solution, at Post: 164,835. This referred to multiple registry keys containing mspst.dll. But I only found 1 in my registry. There seem to be a number of suggestions around this solution but no definitive answers.

I tried exporting all the folders except the defective "archive" folder, but it still showed up when I then imported the new pst file. If I create a new empty pst file the Archive folder is still there.

    Any thoughts welcome.

Can you right-click it and select Close Archive Folders from the popup menu?

Sorry, I didn't specifically say that, but that also brings up the same error message

Try creating a new Outlook profile (see Create a New Outlook Profile).
