    gtools.dll yes or no?

    Hi

I use GenieSoft software Outlook Backup, when installed it generates a file called gtools.dll, my three spyware programmes all ignore this file, however I downloaded another one to test it and it declared this file as spyware and that data could be sent to Gator giving all my online details.

    Any thoughts on this please.

    Regards

It appears it is classified as an adware.W32.Claria file...here are some fixes

    Hi Jezza

Outlook Backup won't run without this file, do you think people should steer clear of GenieSoft Software?, I will have to remove it to get rid of this file.

Oooh that is a hard one to answer. I have had a seach around to find anymore and I can only find an Italian forum which has talked aboutr this adware.

Can we assume you have the correct one and it is part of the boni fide software as this could be a hijacked dll name. I would keep it for the time being, I wouldn't want to throw the baby out with the bath water...my <img src=/S/2cents.gif border=0 alt=2cents width=15 height=15>

    Hi Jezza

Yes it;s a bona fide programme, perhaps I should contact GenieSoft and see what they say.

    Re: gtools.dll yes or no?

Does the EULA (usually a text file, installed with the progam) say anything about ads etc?

I notice lots of Google hits for gtools.dll as spyware, but I suspect it's not related to the Genie-soft DLL though. My guess is that whatever picked it up has identified it by name only, off a "rogue" list i.e. a false positive.

    Hi Alan

I am sorry I cannot answer your question because I purchased the latest version and before installing I removed all traces of the old version, I am happy to say that gtools.dll is not included in the latest version,
