Duplicates on an Excel spreadsheet (2003, SP2)

    Hello, all.....

I have a question. I'm trying to find some software out there that will remove duplicates from an Excel spreadsheet. I was wondering if any of you have any experience in this, and can give me feedback on which the best one is.

    Thanks,

    BILL

    Hi Bill

There is a wealth of experience on this in the Lounge and a multitude of solutions. What is your duplication problem, is it duplicates in a column, do you want to delete the duplicates etc.

If you could provide a little bit of outline to your problem we can direct you and assist you...

I guess the more detailed, the better. I'd like it to give the option of either removing duplicates, or merely highlighting them. I guess I could use a feature that removes blank rows as well. I downloaded something from Sobolsoft. It has the features I'm looking for, but when I actually ran the shareware, it wasn't as accurate as I would've liked, and a lot of the features are disabled (until you buy the full version), so I don't know if those features work or not.

Well the simplest way without code is to use Data | Filter | Advanced Filter.

    1) Highlight your range
    2) Select Copy to another Location
    3) Select the new location
    4) Select Unique Records Only
    5) Press OK

This removes and places the non duplicates

Otherwise we can do a fancy delete macro...how are you with VB and have you an example (sensitive data removed) for us to work on?

    Importing it into an Access database <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Not that I am aware of, but there are bound to be but Excel is quite capable of doing it but really depends on the complexity of the duplication removal you require

Why purchase something that the software you are using can do for <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>?
