    Array Position (XL97; SR-2)

Is it possible to return a value from a specific position within an array?

    Example:
Return a value for position 5 where the array contains 12 positions.

If I understand what you are asking, then I think the INDEX function will do what you want.

    Legare,

    You're correct.

INDEX(array,row_num,column_num) returns the value of a specified cell or array of cells within array.

    Thanks,

    Legare,

Is it possible to pass an XL file name into an array formula.

    Such as:
    Cell A1 = 1234.xls
    Cell B1=INDEX(E:Hold&A1&'!RangeName,5)

The result would be INDEX(E:Hold1234.xls'!RangeName,5). This formula works but I can't seem to pass the cell reference.

I tried a number of things, but I could not find anything that worked.
