It seems like one of those 3-d puzzles you can see an immage by focusing into the distance. the image is of a Teapot suspended in space with a floor that drops off and doesn't quite reach the back wall

I imagine you have an astigmatism, Mrs J can never see them either

    Re: What am I?

Correct, but I wonder why the floor has been designed that way?

    Re: What am I?

I have some astigmatism and I am able to see them...

Once you learn to do the "trick" once, it seems to become easier to do it with the same one and also newer ones. I find having a lot of glare on the pic helps since you can focus on the reflection of yourself in addition to the picture and this is where I think your eyes need to be...

    Re: What am I?

I think both the floor and the back wall (or is it a ceiling) was designed to also add to the 3-d ness of the picture.

I have a start trek poster with the enterprise-D (visible) on it and when you focus correct on it you can see a (hidden) romulan bird of prey (like it was cloaked!). The illusion is lost a little since there is also a cloaked planet that becomes visible and this makes no sense whatsoever: how could one have enough energy to cloak an entire planet

    Re: What am I?

I have just shown this to Jezzarette 2 and she has stomped off as she cannot see it, I think it is the ability as you say, to focus. J2 cannot get the idea of unfocussing and just stares crossed eyed at it....

...and then really scarily you mentioned Star Trek and we are watching Star Trek the Return Home on the TV

we are watching Star Trek the Return Home

Do you mean Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home?

This is (arguably) the best of all the Star Trek Film franchise ...

    Re: What am I?

I don't think I have astigmatism! I certainly have myopia (at least -15 dioptres in the sph or cyl, can't remember which) but with Zeiss Gradal 1.8 varifocal lenses I'm told that I can see better than I theoretically ought to be able to.

I think you have have to have a special type of brain to be able to see those 3D pictures...

    Re: What am I?

    I am also myopic.

I don't think it requires a special type of brain per se, though I do think it is a learned trick, the more you can do it the easier it is. It is the ability to focus behind the picture
