    Template Troubles (Word X)

We have a rather crude Memo template someone set up in Word 97/SR? and I have been given the task of either recreating it or fixing it. I have received 2 issues to deal with immediately. #1 the user can't change the margins #2 can't access headers

I figure #1 is just the way it works with templates, but #2 doesn't seem reasonable. How is a person supposed to enter the information if they can't access it?

I'd like to eventually have something nice that has all the buttons and whistles, but for now just some simple fixes are preferred.

    Hi Tracy:

It sounds like the document is protected. Open the template itself & go to Tools/Protect Document... & unprotect it. If the template is password protected, you have another problem.

    Hope this helps.

I can do that, but isn't there a way to keep the template protected and just make the header accessible?

    Tracy,

Why is the template set up so that the user has to enter the header in order to enter information? <img src=/S/crazy.gif border=0 alt=crazy width=15 height=15> - that sounds a little odd.
Can't the template be rearranged so that the place for entering the information is in the body of the document, rather than the header?

    Hi Tracy:

If you're document is protected, you can only access form fields--that's the purpose of the protection. And you can't insert or paste form fields in a header. You can set your template up so that the header takes up no space & insert form fields where the header used to be. You can also set up the template so that the text in the form fields will appear on other pages by using REF fields.

    Hope this helps.
