insert file - table borders are added (Word 2002 XP)

    Hello

    I have 2 Word docs.

The 1st doc is designed as a Word table, that is used as a mailmerge. The table is designed with no borders, except a top border to seperate each record.

The 1st document is then inserted as a file (Insert, File...) into the 2nd document.

The result of this is: for some reason the table has box and all borders applied. And I don't know whats causing this, as this never use to occur. I've opned and repaired both documents, and retested. but I get the same result. When the 1st doc gets inserted into the 2nd document, full borders are applied to the table.

    any ideas?

    many thanks diana <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I cannot reproduce the problem. What happens if you copy and paste the table from document 1 into document 2 instead of using Insert | File...?

When I copy and paste the table into the 2nd doc I get the same result ie full table borders are applied.

I've attached the docs, perhaps you may get a different result

The default "table style" for your table is Table Grid. It sounds as though the direct formatting (borders removed/changed) is being discarded and replaced with default table style information when you insert/paste. My Word 2003 doesn't do that, but I'm not sure which setting determines what happens.

You can set the default for table styles in Table Autoformat -- you can choose Table Normal from the list and click Default . This will make all your tables have NO style, which is what every table was before Office 2003. We've had SO MANY PROBLEMS with tables with the default "Table Grid" style picking up other paragraph styles in our documents, then infecting the text inside the tables -- like making all table text in some tables take on the attributes of List Bullet style or TOC4 style. Now we're using "Table Normal" for our tables to get away from all the problems. Trying to repair the document doesn't work; Word doesn't see it as an error.
