    backup file format (2000)

I saved a outlook file called outlook.pst onto an external dvd. The hard driveon which outlook originally was located later failed and was replaced, I replaced the outlook.pst file into a folder of the same name from which it originated, Outlook claims that the file is not a pst file. I tried to import the file; that operation also claims the file is not a pst file. I did change the name of the file to OUTLOOKA.PST. What can I do to remedy this problem and also what did I do to create it?

    Re: backup file format (2000)

Was it originally an Outlook 2000 file? Outlook 2000 understands the PST format used by Outlook 97-2002. However, files created in the new Outlook 2003 format would not be recognized by Outlook 2000.

(If it was an Outlook 2000 file, I'm not sure what could have happened to make it unrecognizable.)

Also, make sure that the .pst file is not read-only. Right-click the file in Windows Explorer and select Properties from the popup menu. If necessary, clear the Read-Only check box.
