    Templates - Quick access? (2000 9.0.3821/SR-1)

    I have a fairly large set of forms that I have saved as templates. I need to make changes to them on a regular basis. Going through the whoopla of getting to them through "WindowsApplication DataMicrosoftTemplates is a pain. If I create a shortcut for the Templates folder on my desktop and choose the templates from there, it only gives me the .doc version. Any solutions or suggestions out there?

    Can you create a shortcut to the folder that contains the templates, and put this shortcut into your MyDocuments folder?

    Then, when you go to File>Open in Word, you should see the ShortcutToTemplate folder icon, and clicking on that should take you to the folder with the templates.

    Sorry don't have time to try this out right now, but it seems it should work...

    Hi chamar76,

    The default action for double-clicking a template is the New command. Just right-click your template and select Open.

    If you want to change the default action to Open instead of New:

    - Open an Exploring window, such as My Computer
    - Go to View/Folder Options
    - Select the File Types tab
    - Locate Microsoft Word Templates
    - Edit the File type
    - In the Actions select Open
    - Click the Set Default command
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Cheers!
    Hi Gary,
    Making a shortcut to the templates folder doesn't work for me. As I mentioned in my post, I have tried that before. What happens then is that when you open a template file out of the shortcut "templates" folder, you end up with a new document and not the actual template (.dot) file.
    Thanks for the suggetion though.
    Thank you, BAM
    Right clicking the file in the Templates folder and then selecting "open" did the trick. Now I have a shortcut to Templates on my desktop and I can easily access the actual .dot file of my choice.
    Hi again Gary,
    I did as you suggested as well and put my shortcut to Templates in my My Documents folder. Now I have them handy and know how to open them as well, thanks to BAM. Thanks to the two of you.
    When you want to open a template from Explorer, right-click on it and select "open" from the context menu.
    If you have WOPR, you can add your templates folder to your file open places. (Otherwise, you can download Romke Soldaat's version (free) from Compuserve or the OfficeVBA site. See my download page for links.)
