How do I sort by font color? (2002 SP3)

One way I'm categorizing the attached spreadsheet is by color-coding rows: red means active, green means inactive, and black means unknown.

I realize that instead of using colors, I could create a column called Status, but each row has different specifics that I need to include, rather than just saying "A," "IA" or "U."

So, is there a way I can sort the spreadsheet by the color of the font in each row? Thaks!

See Sorting By Color on Chip Pearson's site.

    Hi,
In addition to Hans' method, you can also do this using defined names and old Excel4 macro functions rather than VBA (see attached). Note that with both methods changing the font colour will not automatically update the function - you need to force a recalculation of the worksheet.
