Repartition USB Flash drive

I've been using a Laser 256MB Flash drive (FAT) with a 98SE (FAT32) and a XP Pro (NTFS) box. I've been getting all sorts of mixed results, with 98 sometimes able to read/ run some files, other times nothing. I've fiddled with the formatting utility that came with the drive. Sometimes this fixed it for 98 (without erasing files???) But now I've got to desperate times, where nothing recognizes it. I've used "Disk Management" in the XP admin tools, but it won't allow me to format it - I don't think it can even "see" a partition ("Mark Partition as Active" and "Delete Partition..." both greyed out.

If there's any way to recover from this, I'd really appreciate the secret.

I think this is free to download, but some tech forums reckon this is capable of the task BootITNG

Thanks Jezza. I've downloaded this and will give it a go if appropriate. Something that also seems odd to me is that (after trying KillDisk to remove the strange/ stubborn partition) I have the partition type reported as MBR. Strange???

Well, thanks for the lead Jezza. It's the closest I came to being able to repartition, but not close enough. I think USB is RIP. It's a great tool BTW, and will stay on a "toolbox" floppy for future [shudder] usage.

Just a note: that BootIt Next Generation is NOT . It is relatively inexpensive especially when you purchase the bundle and compare the price to other solutions. It is not necessarily for the less experienced though.

This is true, but if you use only the floppy/CD component, available as "MakeDisk" - a free add-on, then this part becomes "effectively" free. A bit of a grey area, certainly.

No argument there. You could blow away multiple operating systems in one hit... all at the touch of the wrong button!
