    Report (2000)

    Hi,

I have a problem with one of report in the DB that I am working now. There are 30 fields in detail section of each sort field of the report. But as long as I put more 10 fields, there are speck before the section detail of sort b field. I don't why it happen. I have check the section, report's property and nothing need to be changed. I assume the section field can hold 30 fields.

Please see the db that attached. Please advice.

    Thanks

    Regards

The problem that I can see is that you can't fit all the fields for MD b on the same page as for MD a so it puts them all on the next page. But the section header stays on the previous page.

For the MD grouping, create a footer as well as a header, then in the properties of that footer, set the ForceNew Page property to
After Section. This will start a new page before it puts in the next MD.
    Regards
    John

You can have more than that number of fields on a detail section, from memory you can have up to 750.

That table design needs to be changed, have all the questions defined in another table, then you can have a subreport rather than defining 90 fields, you just define 3.

    It's called table normalisation.

    Thanks, Pat.

I did what you said, have all the questions defined in another table with one to many releationship. But I can't add a new record in the query. Please see the attached db.

    Please advice.

A Totals query is never updatable, because it combines values from several records into one.

You should use an entirely different structure - see the attached database.

Also see the database attached to <post:=607,991>post 607,991</post:>.

When i said have all the questions defined in another table, i meant that you have one question per record in the other table. All you have done is created another table and moved all questions from 1 record in one table to 1 record in another table.

Without seeing Hans solution, i would say he's suggesting that you have what i have just described above.

I didn't create the report for Gary, but the table structure in the database I attached is as suggested by you.
