    UserTemplates Word 2007 (2007)

In previous versions of Word an installation program could query the Registry, look for the following key:

    HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice11.0CommonGeneralUserTe mplates

and it would return the folder containing Normal.dot.

In looking at the registry keys created by Word 2007 -- this key no longer exists.

Has anyone figured out a reliable way to determin where Word 2007 is currently looking for templates?

For Office 2007, it would be

    HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftOffice12.0CommonGeneralUserTe mplates

If this key exists, it will be used. If it does not exist, the default user templates location is used:

    Cocuments and Settings<username>Application DataMicrosoftTemplates

Duh. I thought I had changed the template folder (and so would have created the Registry key). I had changed startup, but not usertemplates.

    Thanks.

And so... if you have an installation routine that cannot find usertemplates -- that is, if the default is being used -- you can find THAT by querying:

    HKCUSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer Shell FoldersAppData

    then appending

    MicroSoftTemplates

    to teh result.
