    Print as shown (2003 SP2)

I am trying to print an address for a selected record on paper that is half A4 width and half A4 height. The address should be mid page near the right edge. As I need to go to specific records to print, I am using a form set a

Have you changed the paper size in Page Setup?
I think you will need a user defined, but you might find another that works.

I never print forms. I always create a report version of the info and print that.

    Thanks John.
I tried that. Same result. (I was using forms because it is easy to do a FindFirst on the form's recordset.)
But if anyone can solve the problem (forms or reports). let me know.

I would use a form to find the record, then have a print button that printed a report at the same record.

Using a report, I set the page size to A6 landscape, centred the text on the screen, then this is what I see in Preview.

    Looks Ok to me.
(With no border on the image, it is not clear, but all the white space is part of the report.

Access subtracts the non-printable area. The size of this area depends on the specific printer.

    Thanks Hans.
So MS Word's display shows the paper; MS Publisher's display shows the paper; yet good old Access' display shows the printed area. So much for consistency.

Re: Print as shown (2003 SP2)

All printers have a non-printable area on all four sides. The size varies between printers, but 6mm all around is quite a small amount, so with this size paper you I don't think you can make the report wider than 135mm.

What would happen if you said you were using a custom size that was 153 mm wide? Would it then let you print out to right distance?

    John

Re: Print as shown (2003 SP2)

I could use 'Custom Paper' (some printers - 'Custom Size'). But then the paper size must be set using the printer's dialogs. In this case it's simpler to just use A6.
Using A6 works just fine, - once I was shown that the screen display in Access is only the printed area.
Thanks for your help. Are you going to the tennis (Aust Open)?

Re: Print as shown (2003 SP2)

I am glad you have got this working.

Just for your info, with paper sizes each increment of the number represents a halving of the paper size. So A4 is half an A3, A5 is half an A4 etc.
Same is true of the B sizes.

I am not a fan of tennis. The news and the newspapers give me more than enough. What about you?
    Regards
    John

    Thanks for that John.
Usually go each year, but missed out this year.
Stay in the cool of Mt Macedon especially for the rest of this week.
