    Normal.dot open elsewhere (Word 2003 sp2)

When opening Word, I get the following message:

Word experienced a serious error the last time the add-in 'acrobat pdfmaker office com' was opened. Would you like to disable this addin?

If I click NO, Word opens with the message:

    Runtime Error!
    Program C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice 11Winword.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

If I click YES to disable, Word opens normally.

When I then try to enable the addin (which I need to do), I eventually get the message:

Word cannot save this file because it is already open elsewhere
    C:documents and settings....Normal.dot)

Basicially, if the addin is disabled, I can use Word normally. If it's enabled, as I need it to be, Word doesn't work.

Is there any solution for this, other than deleting Normal.dot (I don't want to lose the tons of customization I have made).

    Thanks for your help.

I'd disable the Acrobat add-in and print to the PDF printer if you want to convert a document to PDF. The Acrobat add-in is the cause of no end of troubles.

    Hans,
I want the add-in enabled because using it to convert a Word file to PDF automatically adds the bookmarks. Some of the documents I convert are large reports with many sections, subsections, figures, tables, appendices, etc. that need bookmarks. Creating the bookmarks manually is a time-consuming chore, and subject to a missed link or three.

So my next question would be, is there an way to automatically create bookmarks when using the PDF printer?

I don't know, but see Lose that Adobe Acrobat Toolbar - without losing the Adobe functionality (read the entire article).
