Wanted - Text Editor that can strip html link tags

Hello, does anyone know of a text editor that can automatically strip links from text? I know that NoteTab Lite can strip all Html Tags but I want to just get rid of <a> tags. I have Dreamweaver and this will do the job but it is a heavy application and I'm looking for something I can load quickly with the minimum of fuss.

    Thanks,

    Chris (Hunt)

This is my favourite Textpad a fantastic text editor and you are able to record macros for repetitive work. It is one of those licences that continues on and on without having to renew and it is <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>

TextPad is a good editor. But it is not free; it is shareware. Also it has not been updated in several years, causing some to wonder about its future.

Yes, I downloaded the trial version and had a look at it and while I do think it is a nice editor I couldn't see anything there to automatically strip links from text. Given the range of alternative text editors I'm not sure that the price of 30 dollars is really worth it.

Do you have Microsoft Word? Although you want to work purely in "text" format with HTML files in Word, never in HTML format (turn on Tools>Options..., General tab, Confirm conversions at open), it has a flexible wildcard search feature that you can use for this purpose. I've built a little demo in the attached document.

    I'd say your best bet is ReplaceEm <img src=/S/free.gif border=0 alt=free width=30 height=15>ware - - 572KB

Have a look at "Remove an enclosing tag" in Example regular expressions. I think it does exactly what you're after.

    Furry Nuff

My version is still "free" as it is not a time limited trial version, it just reminds you everso often. You are not clear where you want to strip out the tags from. Is it actually html code with the <a> tags viewable or is it a document that you want to remove hyperlinks from? You answer to thios may sway the direction the advice goes.

I'm not familiar with text editing HTML, but to expand on Jefferson's thought on Word, there's a keyboard combo feature in Word that I use to "strip" links from a document if I don't want the links to be hot.

Highlight the text and then hit Ctrl / Shift / F9 and the links will change to plain text. HTH

Using notepad, the Edit --> Replace... menu has the ability to find and replace all within the document.

Tell it to search for <a> (and </a>), and replace with nothing. That should do the trick for you.

Re: Wanted - Text Editor that can strip html link

Thanks John, I went to the site but didn't bother downloading the software. I've come to the conclusion that unless I can find a free editor I won't bother. I can use Dreamweaver when I need to and I think I might only need to do so occasionally. Looking at the information you provided I think that HTMLL Notepad might not do the job. It rather looks as if it strips away all tags and not just link tags. NoteTab Lite will do this and is free.

    All the best,

    Chris
