Open web page maximized (Internet Explorer 6.0)

Sorry, I couldn't find an IE index so thought I would post this here instead. I have shortcut in my toolbar to a particular web page and it always opens in a minimized state. I need to change it to always open maximized (NOT full page, just the maximized view). Can you help me?

    Thanks,

    Lana

Right-click the shortcut and select Properties from the popup menu.
Activate the Shortcut tab of the Properties window (if necessary)
Select Maximized from the Run dropdown list.
    Click OK.

Hans, when I right click and select Properties, the three tab choices I have are: General, Web Document, and Security. I have looked at all of them and cannot find a shortcut choice or a Run Maximize selection. Any suggestions? Thanks for your prompt reply, how do you do that? Do you have some kind of an alarm when a new post is issued?

Sorry, my bad. I didn't check before replying. You're correct, a shortcut to a web page doesn't let you specify how to open it. So I guess it depends on how IE opens in general.

Although it's possible to receive notifications of new posts, I don't use those. I simply have the Lounge open most of the time, and refresh its window every few minutes to see if there are new posts.

Re: Open web page maximized (Internet Explorer 6.0)

Would you believe that when I click on my IE icon, my home page opens in a maximized state. It's only from the shortcuts (and/or links) that it opens minimized. And, I don't even care that it somehow is designed to do that, but it aggravates me that it isn't easily remedied. I have checked many items in Help to try and find the solution to no avail. Why not address it in the Help option? Is that really too much to ask? When I access the site from my Favorites (with the screen maximized) it opens just fine. I have tried opening it from the shortcut, maximizing the screen and creating a new short cut and it does the same thing. Do you think I could ask someone else? And, if so, who - MicroSoft Support maybe?

Sorry for the rant, but I access this site probably hundreds of time in a week and it gets to be a nuisance to have to maximize the screen every time. Thanks for your help.

I just made several using IE7, and each REMEMBERED what the screen size was that I had open when I made the shortcut.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

What happens if you restore a maximized browser window to non-maximized? What is the window size?

It stays full size across the screen, but shortens to about half the screen from top to bottom. Kind of odd maybe. I tried this with IE and Excel - it did the same thing.

OK, thanks. That rules out another possibility. Try the following when a web shortcut opens minimized:
Right-click the Windows task bar button for the web page.
Select Move from the popup menu.
Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to see if you can bring the window into view; you will have to experiment a bit.
If you succeed, move and resize the window to fill the screen (without being maximized).

Re: Open web page maximized (Internet Explorer 6.0)

Well, that worked, when I closed the window and reopened it from the shortcut, it opened in the whole page minimized form. That'll work for me. Also, when I opened another shortcut to fix it as well, it automatically opened to that same size? Isn't that kind of odd? I guess it (IE) has a new default minimized size now. I did try minimizing an Excel window just to test it and it still goes to the half-page size so that's good. Thank you a lot.

    Do you really mean minimized? <img src=/S/scratch.gif border=0 alt=scratch width=25 height=29>

Re: Open web page maximized (Internet Explorer 6.0)

Yes, it still opens in the minimized state (the box in the upper right corner is the larger maximize button). If I click on the maximize button the change is very tiny, it's virtually the same size whether it's minimized or maximized. Isn't that what you expected would happen? I guess if I ever had occasion to need it really minimized I would have to reverse the process you sent. Don't know why I would need to do that though, so I'm happy with the outcome. And, like I mentioned, when I used another web page shortcut it opened in the same sized view so I'm assuming that Internet Explorer reset a default somewhere. I couldn't begin to understand it, of course, I simply live with it. Thanks again for working it out for me.

Re: Open web page maximized (Internet Explorer 6.0)

Oh, OK. The usual terminology for what you describe is "restored". "Minimized" means that there is only a button on the Windows task bar, and no visible window.

Internet Explorer is different from applications such as Word or Excel, in that it doesn't remember whether a window was maximized. So the workaround is to make the non-maximized (restored) window as large as possible. It's not exactly the same, but it looks the same.
