    Alternative to Acrobat??

In considerinng an alternative to Acrobat for creating PDF, one also needs to address the bells and whistles.

For example, on my main OS I have full Acrobat 5 and PDF Converter Professional 4.

The latter is much less expensive but lacks the ability to compare PDF documents. So I guess the features I would want are, off the top of my head:

    1. Ability to create PDF from any app by printint/saving as PDF.
    2. Converting PDF to usefull formats such as text, Word doc, RTF, etc.
    3. Ability to comparePDF docs and mark differences.

What products do these tasks well?

Any other features that were not on the top of my head?

I think your best bet is to go to Planet PDF Look at NitroPDF for example. This site is very geared up to PDF, hence the name. It appears you have opinions on the use of the format after your questions about Office 2007 recently.

Howard if you are are still using Adobe 5, you can upgrade to either 7 or 8 PRO, for about $150.00. The standard Adobe upgrade is even less, but it lacks the "bells and whistles". I upgraded from Adobe 5 to Adobe 7 Pro, and am quite pleased. It works with my Office '03 app's nicely and even plays well with my scanner and Office '07. To date I have had no issues. I really like the new Adobe Designer for creating inter active Adobe documents. I looked at going to 8 Pro, and even tested it but for now I will stay with Adobe 7 Pro. You can try it out before you lay out that kind of money too, and their (Adobe) tech support, follow up and customer service has been great.
    Thanks John

Does the newer Acrobat provide for all 3 of the bells and whistles I listed?
