    Windows Voice for blind

What are people using nowadays to provide access to Windows-based software for blind people?
I had some contacts over 10 years ago who used dos-based speech recognition, with smarts in the software; the combination of blind person + software was faster at processing mail through an offline reader than was (sighted) I.
At that time, too, one person demonstrated his use of Windows.

I have had some limited experience with text-to-voice in MS Word, but that is about it.

In the UK there is the Royal National Institute for the Blind, and Microsoft funds some aspects of AbilityNet. Probably worth a wander through these?

I suspect the venerable JAWS has had a Windows makeover...

John, thanks for these links. They will send me a long way down the path.
JAWS rings a bell. I think that is the package I witnessed in Atlanta/Macon about 10 years ago.

Thanks Jezza. This is a sure hit.
I had done some searching on the web and was puzzled that what to me seemed obvious keywords didn't turn up many hits.
